FILM PROMOTION
For 23 years, Kush has occupied the foreground in the marketing, exhibition and distribution of Black/Urban cinema, supporting BEM filmmakers and working assiduously behind the scenes to increase mainstream access for marginalised and underexposed visions.
More recently, it has expanded to address the cinema of the diaspora, breaking new global talent and future classics – and ‘Kush Film Boutique’, the UK’s longest running Black film membership club, has continued to present screenings across the country and collaborate internationally.
Black Limelight’s involvement has coincided with a revitalised web presence for Kush, and the development of their pioneering hybrid ‘Video On Demand’ virtual cinema, alongside an extensive Archive and Distribution platform.
Key to this resurgence in activity has been the repurposing of long-standing branding originally inspired by the Kushite pyramids of Egypt and Northern Sudan, flipped and reinterpeted to evoke the literal and metaphorical projection of new ideas.
The recent addition of the Drunken Scorpion brand has been instrumental in launching a programme of ‘Late Night Kung Fu’ screenings at a dedicated East London cinema venue.
